Ultraviolet radiation (UV) is an efficient means of combating microbes, bacteria and viruses – including SARS-CoV-2. The high-energy photons are often more effective than chemical or thermal disinfection methods or are advantageous to use. However, if you want to use advanced LED technology instead of conventional mercury vapour lamps, you have to specifically adapt your design to the new light sources. In this issue, you will learn what developers need to know about LEDs on the one hand and about their power supply on the other.

In addition, the new LP.PRO reports on laser light sources for material processing, shows new application scenarios for lidar sensors and talks to asphericon CEO Sven Kiontke about his experiences, milestones and upcoming tasks.
