Edmund Optics: manufacturing expansion and new LDT test stand

Sponsored Post – Edmund Optics, a leading global manufacturer of laser optics coatings, components, and assemblies optimized for high-power laser systems, continues to invest in its laser optics manufacturing capabilities and has recently expanded its footprint in Oldsmar, FL, USA. The brand new, state-of-the-art 34,000 sq. ft. Laser Optics Center is dedicated to manufacturing a wide variety of optical components with high laser damage thresholds from the UV to the far IR.

“We are excited to significantly enhance our laser optics manufacturing capabilities and capacity with the new Florida facility,” says Marisa Edmund, Chairman and Chief Marketing & Sales Officer for Edmund Optics. “With over 30+ years of regional presence and global design, manufacturing, and applications expertise, we are well-equipped to respond to customer demand for increasingly high-quality laser optics.”

In addition, this facility expands Edmund Optics’ laser optics manufacturing capabilities across laser crystal and glass fabrication, polishing, metrology, inspection, and testing, and is home to approximately 50 employees, many of whom are laser optics experts. Our design and manufacturing engineers specialize in complex, high laser damage threshold coatings and designing for manufacturability.

“We continuously put our customers first, doing this every day by reliably manufacturing laser optics that meet their unique specifications and needs,” says Dr. Stefaan Vandendriessche, Director, Laser Optics Business Line for Edmund Optics. “This new facility enables us to better support innovative applications through our expanded development, manufacturing, and assembly capabilities.”

Alongside this manufacturing capabilities expansion, engineers at Edmund Optics, including Dr. Matthew Dabney, Principal Laser and R&D Engineer, are actively involved in developing a new LDT testing standard as well as creating an in-house testbed capable of accommodating testing according to ISO Standards 21254-1, -2, -3, and -4, and newer parameters and protocols from the Optics and Electro-Optics Standards Council Task Force 7 (OEOSC-TF7). This in-house testbed allows Edmund Optics to measure the optics they manufacture with a high degree of confidence and repeatability, allowing them to accurately verify the published LDT specifications. Having such a testbed provides them with a rapid feedback loop to maintain a reliably high-quality laser optics production.
