VIAVI Solutions optimises test portfolio for optical transport technologies

Viavi Solutions Inc, one of the world’s leading providers of measurement, monitoring and assurance solutions for cable and wireless networks, is expanding its test portfolio for lab, production and manufacturing environments of optical transport technologies. With the launch of the CleanBlastPRO automated fibre endface cleaning system and extensive enhancements to the MAP-300 measurement platform and LightDirectTM modules, VIAVI Solutions is providing component manufacturers and network equipment manufacturers (NEMs) with new test capabilities for optical network development.

The CleanBlastPRO is the next generation of VIAVI Solutions’ automated fibre cleaning system and provides new features to reliably clean end faces for both single and multi-fibre connectors. The non-contact process, combined with an industry-established solvent, ensures improved process flows. Conventional contact-based cleaning methods are also around nine times more expensive.

To further optimise the test portfolio, new, time-saving measurement modes have been added to the MAP-300 PCT (Passive Component/ Connector Test) test system. The VIAVI FastIL mode enables the user to measure the insertion loss (IL) of a 12-fibre MPO in less than four seconds, which means a time saving of 20 to 40 percent. In addition, new data management utilities integrate seamlessly with the PCT Control Center application, greatly simplifying the creation of html-based reports. In addition, VIAVI Solutions has integrated the mSWS-A2SLS, a new higher-power modular sweep laser, into the MAP-300-based mSWS Swept Wavelength System. The laser already ensures the lowest operating costs among the test solutions for the mass production of ROADM components. In addition, it reduces rack space by 50 per cent and improves cycle time by up to 20 per cent. Combined with the system’s open platform software interface and distributed architecture, the laser can reduce total cost of ownership by another 30 per cent while maintaining measurement performance.

In addition to the new test solutions for fibre optic links, VIAVI Solutions is also expanding the functions of its LightDirectTM module family for the MAP-300 measurement platform. From now on, the platform also supports tests of coherent modules and silicon photonics:

With the mTLS-C1, a new high-power laser module for the C- and L-band is available. The module is the most compact device in its power class on the market.

Six new CW source types have been added to the mSRC-C2, supporting all telemetry wavelengths and critical new O-band extensions. For example, 1310nm DFB and high-power O-band wideband SLED can now be used.

A new variable back-reflection module – the mVBR-C1 – supports the requirements of the latest OIF specification for 400G-ZR.

For manufacturing applications that require only a simple polarisation scrambler, two new variants of the mPCX-C1 are available – a full O-band version and a high-speed polarisation scrambler.

Also added are features of the mVOA-C1 module to support hardware triggers for LOS calibration, interrupt test modes with millisecond resolution, and new power control modes with external optical power meters (OPMs).

A new MPO and high performance leveling ball for the mOPM-C1, combined with the first version of OPMScope on the MAP-300, transform the power meter enclosure into a powerful multi-channel logging and transient acquisition system.

“In today’s complex networking landscape, NEMs face the challenge of meeting new industry standards as well as increased demand for production volume and performance,” said Tom Fawcett, vice president and general manager, Lab and Production Business Unit at VIAVI Solutions. “With the rapid advances in the industry, we are working closely with leading manufacturers to provide them with the tools they need to develop next-generation technologies. In doing so, we continue our more than 30 years of innovation in photonic and fibre optic testing to ensure a seamless transition to highly efficient volume production.”
