Physik Instrumente launches Technology Hub in Karlsruhe

The PI Technology Hub in Karlsruhe is the new extension for research and development to Physik Instrumente (PI) situated in the iWerkx on the Höpfner Areal. According to PI, the hub offers 500 m² of space for ten employees from the central ‘Global Research’ department as well as an additional ten places for doctoral students, working students and employees working on more extensive projects. The facility also includes specialized laboratories for carrying out practical experiments. According to the company, the PI Technology Hub focuses on the further development of existing drive technologies to increase positioning accuracy and dynamics as well as the development of new, innovative drive principles. This includes numerous sub-areas from mechanics, sensor technology, measurement technology and electronics to algorithms and software.
“The Technology Hub will bring together the latest findings from basic research with decades of experience in practical applications in the global high-tech industry,” explains Salah Benamira, Senior Vice President Global Research at PI. Through its strategic proximity to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and other research institutions, the manufacturer of high-precision positioning technology and piezo applications wants to promote an intensive exchange and close cooperation.
“KIT and PI have been working together on many projects for many years and we look forward to further intensifying this exchange,” emphasises Professor Dr. Thomas Hirth, Vice President Transfer and International Affairs at KIT. “We wish the PI Technology Hub every success and look forward to seeing the latest developments there.”
