Optical fiber bundles for high-performance applications

The next generation of optical fiber bundles from Ceramoptec offers enhanced transmission rates and reduce power losses due to advancements in the fiber manufacturing processes such as fusion and gluing. According to the manufacturer, the optional use of polygonal fibers further improves transmission. Simple 1:1 fiber bundles with over 2000 fibers are possible and in the case of complex fiber bundles (1: n versions/multiple ports), the number of ports has now been increased to over 600 connections, reports the manufacturer. This aims at opening up new applications in the areas of spectroscopy, measurement technology and semiconductor production. It also means that the fiber bundles can be used in the transmission of high-intensity light, as used in modern, high-performance movie projectors or in industrial UV light-curing systems, the latter of which is based on Ceramoptec’s solarization-resistant Optran UVNSS fibers.
