CMOS-based beam caustic analyzer

The new Ophir BeamSquared SP204S M2 beam caustic analyzer from MKS Instruments is a rugged, portable device that measures the beam caustic parameters of collimated continuous wave and pulsed lasers with a Rayleigh length of up to 20 m in less than a minute, according to the manufacturer. The measurement device utilises CMOS camera technology which, according to the manufacturer, achieves higher spatial resolution, better sampling accuracy and an improved signal-to-noise ratio compared to CCD-based cameras. The laser wavelength to be measured can be between 266 nm and 1100 nm. The system is also ISO-11146 compliant.
The system includes BeamSquared software that measures beam propagation characteristics on both the x and y axes, including beam waist diameter, beam waist angular divergence and position, Rayleigh length, M2 or K and BPP factors, astigmatism and asymmetry. The system displays 2D or 3D beam profiles for optical testing of beam behaviour in the focus. According to the manufacturer, it also offers functions such as 3D layer visualisation and the option to include 3D visualisations in reports. In addition to laser setup information, laser measurements and statistics, the reports can also contain a beam caustic diagram. According to the manufacturer, an automation interface via .Net components enables users to create customised applications that fully exploit the laser beam analysis and processing power of the BeamSquared system.
All BeamSquared systems can be mounted both horizontally and vertically. They are supplied with a 300 to 600 mm focussing lens as standard. Specially calibrated 750 mm and 1000 mm lenses for lasers with a long Rayleigh length (20 m) and small focal diameter are optionally available.
The system includes BeamSquared software, an automated traversing axis with variable filters and a CMOS camera. According to the manufacturer, it was developed for continuous operation in both scientific research and industrial applications.
