Compact, high-speed line scan sensor module

The AxCIS family of fully integrated high-speed and high-resolution line scan imaging modules have gone into production, according to the manufacturer Teledyne Dalsa. These easy-to-use contact image sensors (CIS) combine sensors, lenses and lights in a single device and are intended as a cost-effective inspection system for demanding machine vision applications.
The module series is based on multi-line CMOS image sensors from Teledyne, which achieve line rates of up to 120 kHz for monochrome images – or 60 kHz x 2 for HDR images – with a pixel size of 28 µm and 900 dpi resolution. According to the manufacturer, the sensor covers the entire field of view without missing pixels and is said to deliver a completely seamless image without interpolation. HDR imaging is achieved by two lines with independent exposure control; with the improved dynamic range, highly reflective materials are easier to recognize, which makes these modules ideal for applications such as metrology.
According to the manufacturer, the sensor modules are designed to be scalable for different fields of view. The small form factor in a dust-tight design should enable them to be integrated almost anywhere, even if the vertical distance is limited. The Camera Link HS SFP+ fiberoptic interface transmits the high-resolution images via cost-effective standard cables with up to 300 m in length.
