13 Jun Holger Hanselka elected as new president of Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft
Professor Holger Hanselka was unanimously elected as the new president of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft by its Senate on May 25, 2023. Hanselka has been president of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since 2013, which he led during his two terms in office. He will now succeed outgoing president Professor Reimund Neugebauer.
“Professor Holger Hanselka is a strong leader and an outstanding science manager with drive, strategic vision, and high team spirit,” says the Chairman of the KIT Supervisory Board, Professor Michael Kaschke. “Due to his many years of experience with the transformation and development of scientific institutions, he is the right person to lead and successfully position the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in a difficult time. This is a good decision for Germany as a center of science.”
Hanselka studied mechanical engineering at Clausthal University of Technology. From 2001 to 2013, he headed the Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Durability and System Reliability in Darmstadt and was vice president of TU Darmstadt. From 2006 to 2012, he was a member of the Presidential Board of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. According to the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Hanselka is an expert in knowledge and technology transfer, cooperation between science and industry, and company spin-offs, and is a member of numerous national and international committees.
