28 Feb APD array for industrial lidar
The 16-channel avalanche photodiode (APD) array, named as Gain Stabilized Si APD S16430-01CR, from Hamamatsu Photonics is designed for industrial lidar use, according to the supplier. The APD array features an integrated self-bias generator (SBG) that stabilizes the multiplication factor of the optical signal. This eliminates the need for a microcontroller and temperature sensor to adjust the multiplication factor to temperature changes.
The transimpedance amplifier (TIA) is also housed in the signal processing circuitry in the same package. According to the manufacturer, the optimized TIA design accelerates the device to respond to a nanosecond optical pulse width while suppressing fluctuations in the output signal. The APD array structure and TIA are said to be designed to minimize crosstalk.
The APD array can be integrated, for example, in lidar modules for automated guided vehicles.
