07 Feb Medical grad multicore fibers
Multicore optical fibers for the medical market will now be offered by OFS with both single-mode and multimode cores ranging from 4 to 8 in quantity. The optical fibers can be coated with various biocompatible materials such as a silicone primary layer and an ETFE buffer for high temperatures. Other coating options are available to optimize performance for customer-specific needs such as OFS proprietary hard-clad polymer, HCS. According to the manufacturer, the multicore fibers are suitable for existing medical applications and procedures, as well as for new single fiber-based approaches.
