Simplifying laser characterization

Accurate analysis of laser properties remains a complex challenge in many photonics applications. Key parameters such as linewidth and spectral stability often require sophisticated and costly measurement equipment. Hamamatsu Photonics Europe and Lübeck-based Coher Sense are now collaborating on compact solutions for laser characterization. According to the partners, the goal is to make measurements of critical laser parameters more accessible and easier to perform in both research and industrial environments.

A key focus of the collaboration is Coher Sense’s compact Kisa sensor. The plug-and-play system combines multiple measurement functions in a single device and captures parameters including laser wavelength, power, and linewidth.

Hamamatsu contributes its expertise in photonic components and optical detection technologies. The joint development effort focuses in particular on spectroscopy and laser-based analytical applications, where stable and reproducible laser characterization is essential.

The collaboration emerged from the Hamamatsu Photonics Innovation Awards, where Coher Sense received recognition for its laser multimeter in the Advanced Feasibility category.

Going forward, the partners plan to support applications that require photonic measurement systems with reduced integration effort and simplified operation.
