Zeiss targets aerospace with micro-optical integration technology

Zeiss is accelerating its entry into the aviation industry and made its debut appearance at the Passenger Experience Conference (PEC) on 13 April 2026 in Hamburg. By participating as both sponsor and exhibitor, the technology company says it is moving from strategic development to active market positioning within the aerospace sector. The focus is on micro-optical systems and system architectures for cockpit and cabin applications. These technologies enable the integration of information directly into transparent surfaces while addressing key OEM and Tier 1 supplier requirements regarding weight, installation space and system integration.

According to Zeiss, the solutions are based on a patented technology platform that displays content within transparent surfaces. This opens up new approaches to human-machine interfaces (HMIs) in aircraft: information is no longer delivered exclusively through conventional displays but is seamlessly integrated into existing structures. For the cabin, this means multifunctional transparent surfaces combining information display, interaction and design. Applications range from displays integrated into partitions or sidewall panels to solutions for adaptive zoning and privacy management without compromising the cabin’s open feel.

Dennis Lehr, Head of Zeiss Microoptics Aerospace, comments: “Entering the aviation market is a significant step for Zeiss. Alongside our first cockpit applications approaching market readiness, we are unlocking new potential for micro-optical integration, particularly within the cabin.” According to Lehr, the key innovation lies not in adding more displays, but in seamlessly embedding information into the surrounding environment.

Zeiss states that it brings more than 40 years of expertise in holography to the sector. The company also covers the entire value chain, from system design and prototyping to manufacturing and integration.

In addition to the PEC, Zeiss Aerospace will also exhibit at the Farnborough Airshow in July 2026 as it continues to expand its activities in the aviation segment.
