Shutterless compact thermal imaging camera

Teledyne Dalsa presents MicroCalibir, a shutterless compact camera platform for long wave infrared (LWIR) imaging. The manufacturer integrated its in-house 12-μm microbolometer pixel technology with a deep ADC ROIC circuit, which is said to result in a temperature range of 1000 °C within the scene at a NETD of less than 40 mK.

According to the manufacturer, the new version of MicroCalibir without a shutter offers an improved size, weight, and power (SWaP) ratio, as well as uninterrupted image capture without acoustic noise or possible fatigue of a shutter. Resistance against severe vibration or shock is thus greatly improved, says the manufacturer, which is critical in applications such as smaller handheld thermal imaging cameras.

The MicroCalibir comes without a housing and with an M18 interface for QVGA video format or M24 for VGA format. The camera measures 21 mm x 21 mm x 12.9 mm with lens mount and electronics boards and weighs 10 grams. The chip-on-board design is said to provide optimal thermal integration with the best form factor. In addition, the camera is said to offers special image correction designed without sacrificing SWaP characteristics, keeping power consumption at about 1 W in VGA format.
