Holographic windshield displays set for mass-market

Zeiss, Tesa, Saint-Gobain Sekurit and Hyundai Mobis have launched the QuadAlliance to accelerate the series production of holographic windshield displays (HWD). The alliance aims to provide automotive OEMs with an integrated end-to-end solution across the entire value chain, thereby speeding up the industrialization of the technology.

For the first time, all key process steps are being bundled within a single ecosystem. According to the partners, Zeiss is responsible for the optical design and mastering of holographic optical elements (HOE), while Tesa will handle the precise and scalable mass replication of the films. Saint-Gobain Sekurit integrates the holographic components into the windshield, and Hyundai Mobis ensures PGU and HMI integration at system level. By aligning the supply chain, the partners intend to shorten development times, reduce interfaces and increase process reliability.

HWD technology transforms the windshield into a large-area, transparent display positioned directly within the driver’s field of view. Reported specifications include HOE transmission of more than 92%, brightness levels exceeding 10,000 nit and flexible design options within a compact installation space. In the future, resolutions of 4K and beyond are envisaged. In addition to expanded display size, the technology is expected to offer advantages in terms of integration, weight and energy efficiency.

Start of series production is planned for 2029. The partners emphasize that the QuadAlliance is not designed as an exclusive model but as an open ecosystem, allowing OEMs continued flexibility in shaping their supply chain structures.
