THz thickness measurement in process industry applications

New at Polytec is the terahertz measurement system Irys from the Spanish manufacturer Das-Nano. Irys is designed for thickness analysis in automated industrial applications. Polytec is responsible for consulting, sales, and training in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The system works on the basis of THz radiation and offers contactless and non-destructive ultra-fast measurements of paint and material layers. According to the supplier, a special feature is real-time multi-layer analysis, in which up to five layers for different materials and material states can be recorded simultaneously. The THz measurement system can be integrated into automated, robot-assisted processes. Its main area of application is quality control in automotive body painting.
Dr. Dirk Samiec, Business Unit Manager at Polytec, says: “In das-Nano, we have found an innovative partner whose technology ideally complements our product range. The combination of performance and integration capabilities in production processes fits perfectly with the current demands of modern manufacturing facilities and our philosophy of offering solutions with real added value for our customers.” Polytec says, that it has been active in the field of layer thickness measurement for years – using photothermal methods and its own system developments. Terahertz technology is a targeted expansion for new applications in industrial processes as well as in research and development.
