ODTR in multiple variants

Yokogawa Test & Measurement has introduced the AQ7290 series – a new generation of optical time domain reflectometers (OTDR) for testing fiber optic networks. The series comprises six models ranging from standard to high-performance versions, which allow for measurements with two or three wavelengths depending on the model.
The AQ7290 is ready for use in less than ten seconds after being switched on. In addition to the usual knobs and buttons, the device features a multi-touch screen. The redesigned graphical user interface makes operation easier through intuitive menu navigation. A simplified OTDR mode also allows less experienced users to perform measurements with a single touch of a button. A pop-up window displays the next steps and reduces the workload in the field. A USB-C port replaces the conventional power supply. Alternatively, the device can be powered by a USB PD-compliant power bank.
An extended dynamic range now enables measurements over greater distances. According to the manufacturer, the dynamic range has been increased by up to two dB in all models in the series. The signal quality of the displayed backscatter curve is optimized and continuously updated. This enables precise detection of distant sections and detailed analysis of multiple-branch splitter structures, which, according to Yokogawa, could not be clearly displayed with conventional real-time measurements.
The series also offers improved network connectivity for flexible remote access. With a wireless LAN adapter, the OTDR can be controlled via a router. LTE USB dongles are also supported, enabling remote control even without a WiFi router.
