Fiber bundles for use with high-power sources

CeramOptec introduces customizable fused-end bundles for use with high-power light sources, such as in semiconductor production. According to the manufacturer, the patent-pending production process enables low power losses in addition to the compact bundle design. It also allows for a wide variety of bundle shapes – such as square, hexagonal, circular or triangular – and bundle sizes. In combination with anti-reflective coatings applied to the bundle ends, the supplier claims that transmission efficiency of up to 97% can be achieved.
According to CeramOptec, these bundles are suitable for use in the high-power segment due to their low-loss signal transmission, for example in the entertainment and lighting industries, where large light fluxes of up to several tens of thousands of lumens or several hundred watts must be transmitted. The random arrangement of the fibers in the bundle ensures homogenization of the light source. The combination with smaller connector types opens up new areas of application in spectroscopy or the semiconductor industry, where compact and reliable bundles are in demand due to high integration densities.

Customized fibers – from laser material processing to process monitoring

Another emphasis is on fiber optimization from UV to IR. According to CeramOptec, process improvements in preform manufacturing and fiber drawing have succeeded in reduce absorption losses and improve the spectral and solarization performance of the fibers, resulting in numerous new fields of application – from process monitoring and spectroscopy to thermonuclear fusion reactors and laser materials processing in the non-infrared spectrum, where the optical fibers are used in combination with high-power blue diode lasers, for example. In addition, the fibers are also suitable for applications with a high UV light component, such as the sterilization or curing of plastics and polymers.
All fibers are manufactured to customer specifications – in addition to designs with a regular polygon cross-section, for example, rectangles with an aspect ratio of up to 1:6 are also available.
