12 Mai Fiber optic connectors for rough conditions
The new Expanded Beam Multifiber (EBM) connectors from Rosenberger Hochfrequenztechnik combine compact design with high fiber density and are intended to set new standards for reliable, durable and easy-to-use fiber optic connections in challenging environments. The EBM connectors are equipped with a ferrule that can accommodate up to 12 singlemode or multimode fibres for space-saving and weight-optimized multi-fibre connections. According to the manufacturer, the connectors have been specially developed for use under difficult conditions – such as extreme temperatures, strong vibrations, dirt, moisture and frequent mating cycles. The EBM technology is based on advanced optics that avoid physical contact between the fibre ends, thus minimizing wear and the risk of contamination. A collimating lens expands and focuses the light beam to ensure high signal integrity for singlemode and multimode applications. The technology is available with S-RMC or MIL13 connectors. According to the information provided, both connectors offer at least IP68 protection, 5,000 mating cycles, vibration, shock and corrosion resistance in accordance with IEC 61300 and temperature resistance from -40 °C to +85 °C.
